These candidates for the Pacific Blue Cross Board of Directors have been endorsed by CUPE 1816 (representing employees of PBC) and CUPE BC.

Jatinder Bir

Jatinder, a dedicated Surrey School District teacher, has led in both local and provincial capacities, serving as President of the Surrey Teachers’ Association and Chair of the BC Teachers’ Council. She is now eager to channel her leadership expertise into driving positive change on the Pacific Blue Cross board. 

Jatinder is committed to the not-for-profit values of the organization with a focus on transparency, equity, and community-centered healthcare. She aims to foster a compassionate and patient-focused system by integrating feedback and expanding benefits for all user groups. Guided by the principle of seva (selfless service), Jatinder seeks your support to ensure Pacific Blue Cross continues to prioritize members' well-being over profits.  

Lori Mayhew

Lori Mayhew has just completed a long career as the secretary-treasurer of MoveUP, a medium-sized union based in Burnaby, BC.  In that role she was responsible for an operating budget of $13,000,000 and organization assets of more than $20,000,000.  She has also served on a number pensions boards, ranging in size from $35,000,000 to $1.6 billion in assets.  She has earned a Master of Trust Management Standards designation from the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans And holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of BC.  

Lori will bring a deep understanding of good governance and financial oversight to the board of directors at Pacific Blue Cross.

Aaron Sumexheltza

Aaron is a lawyer who advocates for the rights of Indigenous Nations and advises Indigenous organizations on governance, economic development, and shared decision-making. He has practiced as a criminal defense lawyer, supported Residential School Survivors seeking compensation for abuse, and represented clients at all levels of court in British Columbia. Aaron is also a former elected chief and councillor of the Lower Nicola Indian Band who enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons, engaging in outdoor activities, reading, and learning the nłeʔkepmxcin language. 

Aaron’s legal background and work on reconciliation will bring a unique and valuable perspective to the Board of the Pacific Blue Cross.
